Acupuncture Treatment FAQ

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most patients experience little to no pain. The needles are extremely fine, much thinner than a hypodermic needle. You may feel a mild tingling, warmth, or gentle pressure at the insertion site. Many patients fall asleep during sessions.

Acupuncture follows traditional meridian points to restore whole-body balance and well-being. IMS / Dry Needling targets specific muscle trigger points to release tension. Both use fine needles your practitioner may recommend one or both depending on your condition.

The number of sessions depends on your condition and goals. Acute issues may resolve in 3–6 sessions, while chronic conditions often benefit from ongoing care. Your practitioner will recommend a personalized plan after your assessment.

Yes. We use sterile, single-use needles following strict hygiene protocols. Acupuncture is a regulated health practice and, when performed by trained practitioners, is considered safe and effective for most patients.

Most extended health plans in BC cover acupuncture. Many Vancouver employers include acupuncture under extended benefits,  we recommend confirming with your provider before your first visit. We’re happy to provide documentation for reimbursement.
